For starters, I finally finished another book. As much as I love reading, since the start of college it’s been hard for me to make time to pick up a book. But, I am so excited that I was able to finish this book! Keep reading for a book review of The Inheritance Games, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
The Inheritance Games
A nonstop adventure that leads Avery Grambs to a fortune of money and a mystery to why she was left it. Avery is left this fortune, causing her to change her life around moving into the Hawthorne household. Within this mansion still lives the entire Hawthorne family, including the four grandsons. After the Hawthorne family was disinherited from the billions of dollars they thought would fall into their lap, it sets into a spiral of mystery and adventure to solve why Avery was the recipient of Tobias Hawthorne’s legacy.
Wow, it has been a while since I have read any sort of mystery book. I loved it! The twists and turns really keep you on your feet. Specifically, I really enjoyed the puzzle/riddle aspect that was integrated into the book. It’s a great way to keep the reader engaged and trying to think of what could be the answer.
Overall, I think all the characters were great! They were strong characters alone and all worked cohesively together. Avery is bright and beautiful. Her humbleness and desire to do good is something I appreciate greatly. Even though she had just inherited a butt load of money, her morals and values didn’t change, which says a lot about her character.
The Hawthorne grandsons. I can’t even begin to envision what they look like. Tall, handsome, mysterious. I am so here for it and loved all the action of trying to have to main guy characters. Now I know the question comes down to team Jameson or team Grayson… I’m not to strong on either side butttt I am leaning more towards team Grayson lol. But, I must say this reminds me a lot of the “you can love them both” situation in Vampire Diaries. (I know I swear I tie everything to Vampire Diaries). Avery is compelled to both Jameson and Grayson, and I would say pretty equally. I am hopeful in the sequel we will get a little more action and development between the romance of these characters.
Following up, I do wish there was a little more romance in this book. I know it’s based on the mystery and finding the answer, but I think it would have added another level of spice if there was a bit more tension. I don’t know, maybe one kiss wasn’t enough romance for me.
The ending really got me. I almost hopped on Amazon right then to order the next. Overall, it was a great book and the ending is super captivating. I can’t wait to get into the next book and see if any of my own suspicions are answered. If you are looking to read a great ya mystery, this is the one!
