All I have to say is WOW! I loved this book!!! This captivating, ya dystopian read totally has me wanting more. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Here is my book review for Mary E. Pearson’s, Dance of Thieves.
Kazi, short for Kazimyrah, a fierce young woman and Rahtan soldier. She is sent on a mission with her two best friends when they run into Jase Ballenger. A young man recently put into power after the loss of his father. With secrets to hide and undeniable feelings brewing Jase and Kazi are sent spiraling together almost costing them everything.
This book quickly became one of my favorite reads of the year! I absolutely loved it and I am utterly obsessed. I already am wanting to go back and read it again! Filled with bickering, betrayal, feelings, action, and adventure, this book gives you everything you could dream of.
Kazi and Jase are meant for each other, but in reality it is right person, wrong timing. With Kazi being a stong cold fighter and having a lack of love in her life, her feelings for Jase are pushed aside. She struggles to acknowledge her feelings as trauma from her past still haunts her present day. Jase is a lover and a fighter. He will stick up for anything he believes in and wants to be the protector. This mysterious girl he falls in love with keeps him on his toes. Together they bring out each others strengths, but their secrets cost them a lot more.
I feel that their feelings towards each other really shows how opposites attract. I wouldn’t say their relationship is realistic… after all, if someone kept all those secrets from me I don’t think I would still be with them (lol). Anyways, I was always rooting for their relationship, they are just too cute together!
The action and adventure throughout this book is amazing! The world building and sense of surroundings is fantastic. For being a dystopian novel it feels so realistic! Mary did an amazing job with this book, I can’t recommend it enough!
Along with all the other awesome things about this book, the storyline is great! I would say its a medium paced book that is a great distribution between character and plot driven. All of the dots are connected and the end leads for a great opening into the next book!
Besides all the crazy things happening in this book, I feel there are plenty of takeaways. First off, the quotes in this book were fantastic! Second, it was easy to resonate with them and think of how you can apply it everyday.
Here are some of my favorite quotes…
“For everyone can hear spoken words, but only a few can hear the heart that beats behind it.”
Can I get and AMEN! How true is this! It takes a special person to be able to sit down and listen to someone completely. Most overlook and only look to see what will benefit them, instead of what could help benefit someone else. We need to be patient with ourselves and each other. We can all do better to be openminded and listen. This also leads to another thing people say all the time, “put yourself in someone else’s shoes”. Being in touch with your own emotions but also being able to see and feel others emotions is just as important.
With this quote, I take away from it the meaning of being observant. Keep your eyes open, your guard up, and be tough. But also to be able to see through someone, acknowledge their feelings, empathies and relate to their emotions.
“Seconds, could change everything. Seconds could erase one path and send you reeling down another.”
Another super relatable quote. Every action and path we choose sets us up for what’s to come next. The seconds we take to make a decision can change everything.
I have nothing but good things to say about this book! For me, this is one of those reads that you will always wish you could read it for the first time again! I hope you love this read as much as I do. This read will definitely be my biggest recommendation of the year and I 100% think it is so underrated.
