Day Trip To Venice, Florida | Shark Tooth Capital Of The World | Travel Guide
July 17, 2021 Florida
On another adventure to get to see more of the beautiful state of Florida, my family and I went on a quick day trip to Caspersen Beach! Turns out this small little location is the Shark Tooth Capital of the WORLD. Follow along to learn more about my family and I’s fun day trip to Venice, Florida!
Putting a check in the box on my family’s Florida bucket list destinations we finally had the chance to come visit the “shark tooth capital of the world”. How exciting it was to be able to scoop up a bunch of shells to sift through and find a tiny black shark tooth!

Venice Beach
It was an early morning to start our drive down to Sarasota about an hour and thirty minutes from the Tampa area. When we got to the beach we were the only ones there! It was awesome! The beach was very enjoyable, beautiful white soft sand, and the water was great. Venice Beach is beautiful to spend the day splashing in the water or tanning on the beach. After researching a bit, from my understanding, Venice Beach had lots of shark teeth. After spending an hour searching that was not true. If you are looking for shark teeth do not go to Venice Beach. Instead go to Caspersen Beach!
Caspersen Beach
If you are looking for shark teeth, visit Caspersen Beach! Before you go you will need a strainer (we got ours at the dollar store) and a safe container to put the teeth in. Finding the teeth may seem like a difficult task but it really was not! Simply wade into the water knee deep and dig your strainer into the sand, digging up sand, shells, and hopefully some shark teeth. Now gently shake your strainer on the surface of the water to sift out the sand. Next search through the shells left in your strainer to see if there are any shark teeth. Easy peasy!
Hungry?
Although we did not eat at any restaurants while we were out, we did get the best post beach eat… a pub sub!! If you come to Florida it’s a must to stop in the Publix grocery store and get a sub sandwich. It truly is a Floridians favorite post beach snack. I get a 6 inch on white bread with mayo, spicy mustard, and load it up with veggies and sub sauce!
Happy Hunting!
