Snow Like Ashes
To begin, I admire how detailed this book is. Every action, moment, and feeling are vividly descriptive. This book isn’t another sappy teen/young adult romance, it has so much more! This book follows a beautifully developed story line faced with love interests, battle, fighting for what is right, and the main character finding her purpose along the way. I truly loved this book and am a quarter of the way through on the second one (keep your eye out for the book review when I finish).
To give a quick run down (without any spoilers), there are eight kingdoms. The winter kingdom was defeated, and while most were captured, eight had escaped. The main character, Meira, grew up learning how to fight and survive. She became this beautiful warrior ready to help reclaim their kingdom after it had been lost for sixteen years. This is her journey of helping take back the kingdom that they lost.
Meira is the face of this story and to put it simply, she’s a bad ass! Meira is such an empowering you women who takes charge and stance, not letting anyone push her around. Her character is so admirable with such fierceness and willingness to continue to push and be better for her kingdom. Meira is also extremely smart and the way her thoughts are portrayed help you make great connections throughout the book. Along with that, her character is wonderfully well rounded and continues to develop and show her greatness along the way.
Meira is strongly backed by the other characters that help shape her. Her idolized father figure, Sir, pushed her into being that strong young woman. He trained her to become that fierce soldier. Her strength and determination is very much inspired through the lessons and experiences she had with Sir. Another strong character by her side is Mather. Mather is Meira’s best friend and partial love interest. Meira’s experiences with Mather root her, which can be seen in her actions faced along the journeys in the book.
Going in, I expected much more love and romance mixed in. If you are not into sappy stuff like that you will really enjoy this, because there is not much of it. Meira is faced with a bit of a love triangle. Her feelings for her best friend Mather and later on a new developing romance for Theron, a prince. A complicated situation and tough decision but not revealed in this book.
The author truly did a fantastic job with these characters and developing a story line that leaves you smiling at the end. All the characters develop throughout the book to shine in the best way. Each having a true purpose and a small message you could take away from each character. All the characters show growth and development but it doesn’t stop at the end of this book. It leads you to know to expect more in the next one.
Overall, I loved this book and adore how well written it was. I can’t say it enough, the storyline was amazing and was so engaging. Add this book to be next on your reading list!
